THE EARLY OIL: FLEMINGTON
STABLE WATCH: ROSEHILL
HOT TIPS: WEEKEND BEST BETS
BEAT THE BOOKIE: VALUE BETS
Ben Scadden (The Advertiser)
Morphettville
BANKER
There’s no doubting Alpine Eagle’s (Race 5, No 2) natural talent and reports from the stable are that he’s ready to produce a big first-up performance. Expect him to rain on the comeback parade of Prince Of Penzance and Michelle Payne.
IN THE FRAME
The Hayes-Dabernig stable has been smashing it in Adelaide in the past few months and they have a good opinion of this staying filly Concubine (Race 3, No 13). She got to the line well against the boys when fifth in the Chairman’s Stakes behind subsequent Derby winner Howard Be Thy Name and should thrive over the 2500m of this race.
RISK
Black Heart Bart is low flying but the barrier has to be some concern in the Goodwood. He only has one horse on his inside and might find himself buried if he doesn’t jump smartly in the sprint.
HOT (jockey)
DWAYNE Dunn has a very good book of rides led by Under The Louvre in the Group 1 Goodwood. He also has the ride on Secret Agenda in the Proud Miss, a host of other good rides for Robert Smerdon while he also rides Into The Mist and Tall Ship, who both look big chances.
HOT (trainer)
Mick Kent has enjoyed a big SA carnival and he has a host of chances again on Saturday. Supido will try to extend his winning sequence in the Goodwood while Let’s Twist has appeal.
Danny Russell (Herald Sun)
Flemington
BANKER
All aboard the money train, folks. Danny O’Brien has De Little Engine primed to win fourth-up in the 3200m Andrew Ramsden Stakes.
IN THE FRAME
As well as De Little Engine, O’Brien says Second Bullet is best chance of the day. Darren Weir says his best chance is Killarney Kid in the same race. Take your pick, or quinella up. Lindsay Park’s best is Sebring Dream in the first.
RISK
Taking a quaddie at Flemington, unless you plonk De Little Engine one out and load up in the other three legs.
HOT (jockey)
Harry Coffey looks to be Weir’s main man in Melbourne, with Rawiller in Adelaide and Dean Yendall injured. That’s a good lead.
HOT (trainer)
Danny O’Brien has four runners at Flemington — Second Bullet, De Little Engine, Bullpit and The New Boy — all coming of third placings last start. Bullpit is the less likely of the four to win.
Shayne O’Cass (The Daily Telegraph)
Rosehill Gardens
BANKER
She’s Miss Devine (Race 9 No. 4) is a former Queensland mare that has been re-housed at Rosehill with champion trainer Chris Waller for whom she has had the three starts notable for a narrow on-pace win at Sandown-Hillside at her second to last appearance during April. The daughter of Show A Heart was absolutely sensational winning a Rosehill trial on May 9 by 6.5-lens in the brilliant time of 53.1 sec. Drawn to win.
IN THE FRAME
Correspondent (Race 4 No. 11) was the unlucky runner in a TAB Highway Handicap at the last Rosehill meeting o May 7. Before that, he stretched the handy and subsequent city winner New Tipperary at Beaumont. Has only 51kg after the claim for gun apprentice Deanne Panya. Makes generous each-way appeal at the odds.
RISK
Caped Crusader (Race 9 No. 1) is a tough and determined galloper who will strip fitter for his brace second when resuming but he still have to carry his full allotment of 61kg from a marginal draw. Good on him if he can win, he would have earned it.
HOT (jockey)
Rory Hutchings is galloping his way to his first Champion Apprentice title and has the rides to extend his lead on last year’s winner Winona Costin — the best of them being She’s Miss Devine and Harlem Lady in the prior race.
HOT (trainer)
Waller, C.J — see above; he’s trains ‘em both and a few others — Dance of Heroes, Sense And Reason both top picks of ours.
