YAO DASH
SuperCoach price: $50,000
2 starts: 2-0-0 Prizemoney: $113,750
Trainer: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott
Currently sixth in betting for the Golden Rose and ninth in betting for the Caulfield Guineas, Yao Dash certainly looks to have beaten the SuperCoach handicappers. Defeated a field full of exciting young horses including Funstar, Emeralds and Pandemic on September 7 at Royal Randwick and looms as the bargain buy early on in the game.
BOTTEGA
SuperCoach price: $50,000
1 start: 1-0-0 Prizemoney: $22,365
Trainer: Gerald Ryan
A well bred Snitzel colt and from a smart Sydney stable, Bottega absolutely bolted it in when winning on debut. Was scheduled to have his next run at Kembla Grange on 19 September but the meeting was abandoned. Definitely one to put on your watchlist.
CALIFORNIA ZIMBOL
SuperCoach price: $75,000
3 starts: 1-1-0 Prizemoney: $61,250
Trainer: Peter & Paul Snowden
A filly sired by I Am Invincible, California Zimbol beat some quality youngsters to win her first race and then headed north to Queensland finishing fifth in the Listed Bill Carter Stakes and then second in the Listed Oxlade Stakes. Super impressive in recent trials, just beaten by Group 2 winner Strasbourg on August 27 and then beating seasoned city racers Quackerjack and Coruscate on September 10.
GARIBALDI
SuperCoach price: $75,000
7 starts: 1-0-1 Prizemoney: $99,425
Trainer: Tony Gollan
As a two-year-old this son of I Am Invincible ran third in the Group 2 BRC Sires Produce (beaten by Strasbourg) and just missed a place in the Group 2 Champagne Classic. Trainer Tony Gollan intends to send Garibaldi south to either Sydney or Melbourne to contest some quality races this spring so one to keep an eye out for.
JUST ZERENE
SuperCoach price: $75,000
4 starts: 0-1-0 Prizemoney: $18,216
Trainer: Tony McEvoy
Still a maiden after three starts — though unlucky to just lose to the extremely talented Castelvecchio at her second start. Trainer Tony McEvoy must have seen something he liked as he sent the filly over to New Zealand to tackle the Group 1 Sistema Stakes where she finished just two lengths off the winner Yourdeel in fifth place.
MADDI ROCKS
SuperCoach price: $75,000
5 starts: 1-2-1 Prizemoney: $74,200
Trainer: Chris Waller
Was set to take a Princess Series path through the spring with the ultimate aim of competing in the Group 1 Flight Stakes, Maddi Rocks failed to impress at her last start when beaten by a field including the handy Yao Dash and Funstar on September 7. Failed to run down the leaders midweek at Warwick Farm at latest start and would want to see more at next outing before putting her in my stable.
SPEND
SuperCoach price: $75,000
1 start: 1-0-0 Prizemoney: $80,500
Trainer: Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes
This beautifully bred colt certainly looks like he has a bright future ahead of him — no doubt a relief to the owners who shelled out $1.55 million for him at the 2018 Inglis Easter Yearling Sales. Has just the one race to his credit so far, in which he beat True Detective by a nose over 1100m on a heavy Rosehill track in July 2019. That horse has gone on to win at Group 3 class, and will set you back $200,000 in SuperCoach, so Spend looks a bargain in comparison.
AMERCEMENT
SuperCoach price: $75,000
5 starts: 1-0-0 Prizemoney: $106,500
Trainer: James Cummings
Has just the one win from five starts, but it was a at Group 3 level (the Widden Stakes over 1100m at Rosehill back in February) and he also finished less than three lengths off Kiamichi in the Group 3 Magic night Stakes (1200m) in March. Set for the Golden Rose though may have better hopes later in the spring.
ROCCABASCERANA
SuperCoach price: $100,000
3 starts: 3-0-0 Prizemoney: $84,000
Trainer: David Jolly
Roccabascerana is working up the grades and distance and trainer David Jolly says the youngster is bread to get the 1600m of the Thousand Guineas. Yet to tackle Group or Listed type racing but one to watch.
PANDEMIC
SuperCoach price: $100,000
3 starts: 2-0-0 Prizemoney: $109,365
Trainer: James Cummings
The Godolphin youngster showed brilliant acceleration, produced stunning sectionals and smashed the track record when he won over 1100m in Sydney Saturday grade on October 17. Failed to make ground on Yao Dash at subsequent start but that race was not run to suit and so I wouldn’t write him off after that. Serious talent.
GEM OF SCOTLAND
SuperCoach price: $100,000
7 starts: 5-1-0 Prizemoney: $273,950
Trainer: Rex Lipp
After winning his first four races (800-1200m), the Toowoomba-trained Gem Of Scotland placed second in the Listed Bill Carter Stakes (1200m) and finished not far from the placegetters in the Group 2 BRC Sires Produce (1400m) as a two-year-old. Opened this stint with a win in Doomben on September 14 (1100m) and her trainer thinks she could do some damage over 1400-1600m this spring.
MCLAREN
SuperCoach price: $100,000
3 starts: 1-0-1 Prizemoney: $122,575
Trainer: Peter & Paul Snowden
With a win (Canonbury Stakes 1100m) and place (Black Opal 1200m) at Group 3 level already under his belt, and fourth in the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at his only other start it’s safe to say this Snowden trained youngster has a future ahead of him. A fair way down the betting for the Golden Rose, nonetheless one to follow this preparation.
