SuperCoach Racing Blackbook: Horses to keep your eye on from Flemington and Rosehill

This first round of SuperCoach Racing is nearly here and it’s time to start thinking about which horses are going to make the cut for your stable. Who caught the eye from the weekened?

How To Play SuperCoach Racing

The form out of the Makybe Diva Stakes and Run To The Rose looks outstanding as the spring carnival draws closer.

But there were other exceptional performances from Flemington and Rosehill last Saturday.

With the opening round of SuperCoach Racing just over a week away, Chris Vernuccio pinpoints the runners to put in your blackbook.

FLEMINGTON

MAKYBE DIVA STAKES (RACE 7)

Many will be mystified why WA galloper Gatting ($400,000) is priced so high after his shock win at $101 on Saturday. Aside from his last-start failure in Perth, the six-year-old had strong form behind him over the past 12 months, including a second behind Galaxy Star in the Group 1 Railway Stakes last November and a win over the mare in a Group 3 race three months ago. The Turnbull was a strong race but Gatting’s price is a little steep. His next run will be in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (SuperCoach Round 1).

Tasmanian mare Mystic Journey ($500,000) is still on track for the Cox Plate despite her defeat as a short-priced favourite. She loomed to win but the month between runs had an effect in the last 200m in a high-pressure race. She can make amends in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (Round 2).

Queensland derby winner Mr Quickie ($300,000) was the eye-catcher with his fast-closing third. He has clearly returned a better horse and should only improve stepping up in distance. On this run, the four-year-old can give the Caulfield Cup a shake.

LET’S ELOPE STAKES (RACE 6)

Spanish Whisper ($275,000) has beaten Fidelia ($200,000) in both runs this campaign but the latter likely has more upside and a more appealing SuperCoach price tag. Fidelia will relish 1600m.

My Pendant ($175,000) wasn’t suited by the moderate tempo but there’s another win in her against similar class of opposition.

DANEHILL STAKES (RACE 5)

Dalasan ($175,000) is a SuperCoach lock for Round 1 in the Guineas Prelude. He would have won by a greater margin if he wasn’t so wayward down the Flemington straight.

The effort of third-placegetter Express Pass ($125,000) to step up from a maiden to a Group 2 was immense. He may not be up to Group 1 standard just yet but he could be a great cheap option in the right race.

RACE 1

King Of Leogrance ($225,000) was the unlucky runner and should have won. But the two to follow are winner Alfarris ($250,000) and the hard-finishing Caliburn ($250,000), who are both early in their preps.

RACE 3

Thousand Guineas contenders Missile Mantra ($175,000) and Tenley ($150,000) were the hardluck runners. Tenley arguably wins had she not been held up. Similarly, Missile Mantra fights out the finish if she wasn’t trapped behind a wall of horses for most of the straight. They will head to the fillies Prelude (Round 1).

RACE 8

Big win by Zoutori ($200,000). He won three in a row last campaign before two disappointing runs in Brisbane. The stable intends to keep him to the Flemington straight course, so his next start will most likely be on Derby Day (Round 6).

ROSEHILL

RUN TO THE ROSE (RACE 6)

Bivouac ($300,000) beat an exciting group of three-year-old colts — Yes Yes Yes ($250,000), Exceedance ($225,000) and Kubrick ($150,000).

All four ran breathtakingly fast closing sectionals and you won’t go wrong selecting either — or most — of them for the Golden Rose (Round 1) depending on your salary cap, especially if it’s a small field.

Keen for Kubrik to contest the 1600m Caulfield Guineas (Round 3).

THEO MARK STAKES (RACE 7)

WA mare Arcadia Queen ($375,000) was stunning in her Sydney debut, nearly breaking the Rosehill 1300m track record.

This was the four-year-old’s first start since December. She has to be considered for The Everest (Round 4) but a definite inclusion when she contests the Golden Eagle (Round 6).

Runner-up Trope ($175,000) was disadvantaged by the track pattern. He’s flashed home for another second this campaign and is ready to win.

DULCIFY STAKES (RACE 5)

Just Thinkin’ ($150,000) made it back-to-back wins and can keep winning as he steps up in distance.

There was merit in Group 1 winner Castlevecchio’s ($275,000) performance on the wrong part of the track. But the 1400m Golden Rose will be probably be too sharp for him against stiff opposition.

Shadow Hero ($100,000) drew wide and finished powefully for third.

SHERACO STAKES (RACE 8)

Mizzy ($250,000) has begun her prep with consecutive wins. Fasika ($200,000) suffered her first career loss after missing the start, while Dyslexic ($200,000) didn’t get clear running.
