DAVID Jolly has Melbourne ambitions for unbeaten youngster Roccabascerana after his star’s impressive return at Morphettville yesterday.

Jolly has nominated the galloper for the $2m Caulfield Guineas and said he will give the juvenile every opportunity to get to the 1600m feature in October.

“We’re going to go down the Caulfield Guineas path,’’ Jolly said.

“He’s nominated for the Guineas and when you have one showing this much promise, you have to give them a chance of getting to a race like that.’’

Roccabascerana, first-up since an impressive 6½ length Morphettville victory in wet conditions in May, strode to the lead and fought off a challenge by heavily fancied Hafaawa before scoring by more than three lengths.

Jolly said despite being a horse with a high cruising speed, Roccabascerana was bred to get over more ground, with staying pedigree of the dam’s side being a close relation to well-performed stayer Tally.

“He’s got a bit of guts in the pedigree,’’ Jolly said.

“Whether or not he gets to the mile, we will just have to wait and see.’’

Jolly will make a decision tomorrow morning if stable star Behemoth tackles Saturday’s $100,000 Listed Spring Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville.

Behemoth finished fourth behind Begood Toya Mother in last week’s Regal Roller Stakes at Caulfield, after being badly held-up before flashing home late.

Jolly said he would assess the horse after the weekend before confirming if Behemoth stepped out in Adelaide or be saved for a return trip to Melbourne,

“He just got in a bad spot at Caulfield and never really recovered,’’ Jolly said. “He’s back at home and ticking along nicely.

“Obviously the Golden Eagle is where we want to get to with him, so we just have to decide if we want to go again next weekend or wait a little longer before he starts again.’’

PAUL Preusker continue his good year in Adelaide yesterday with a race-to-race double at Morphettville.

The Adelaide Cup-winning trainer produced Bling Dynasty to win his first race for 663 days, before Arty Lucas made it back-to-back victories in SA with ease in the following race.
