Some of the biggest rising stars in SA basketball showed out on a huge third day at the Junior State Championships, with a reigning champion booking their finals spot. Watch the REPLAYS from day three.

Two big wins on Saturday have propelled South Adelaide Panthers into the Under-18 boys state semi-finals as they aim to defend their crown from last season.

The Panthers rebounded after a first round loss to the Eagles, to notch three-straight wins leading into Sunday’s semi-finals including back-to-back wins on Saturday.

South Australian representative sharpshooter Kale Matthews-Hampton took the tournament by storm on Saturday, scoring a combined 49 points across the Panthers wins over North Adelaide Rockets and Eastern Mavericks.

The Panthers performances capped off a huge third day iof action at the Basketball SA Junior State Championships with several clubs including Forestville Eagles, West Adelaide Bearcats and the Rockets all securing big wins on their way to finals action on Sunday.

But one of the best matches of the day came in the final match of the day from court five.

While neither side was destined for finals action, it was hard to tell as Woodville Warriors and Sturt Sabres played out a cracking one-point showdown to finish the Under-18 boys state action on Saturday.

The Sabres picked up their first win of the tournament in the division after star player Josh Clayton, who finished among the top five scorers for the tournament, showed his cool under pressure to score a match-winning two pointer in the final seconds.

Forestville, featuring five players from the SA Metro U18 state team, have already given notice of their title intentions after passing the century mark in disposing of Woodville Warriors on Thursday night and then posting 81 points against Central Districts.

Aspen Crase, Grace Taylor, Olivia Tredrea, Sophie Evans and Zahlia Niemann all played in the recent national titles in Brisbane where SA Metro finished fifth.

And in an ominous sign for Saturday’s opponents South Adelaide Panthers and Eastern Mavericks, all look in prime form.

Twelve of the 18 games feature teams from the U18 girls and boys state competition as the countdown to the finals really heats up.

Deng Manyang will be a player to watch as Central District U18 state boys feature twice against West Adelaide Bearcats and Woodville Warriors.

Manyang scored 12 points in the recent U18 nationals grand final as SA Metro were pipped in an exciting final by Victoria Metro.

The remaining six games are from the U14 state divisions as SA’s next generation of talent look to make their mark.

Eastern Mavericks will appear in four of those, two each for the boys and girls.
