Howie’s Heroes are here to get it done in BBL08! And while Fox Sports commentator Mark Howard has included a liberal dose of young blood, his SuperCoach team will be relying on some familiar faces. SIGN UP TO SUPERCOACH BBL FOR FREE!

Shane Warne and Michael Vaughan make a bet over SuperCoach BBL

Watch out, Howie’s Heroes are here to get it done for BBL08!

Honestly ... SuperCoach BBL is not something that I’m overly familiar with, but seeing as Shane Warne keeps going on and on and on about it, it’s hard not to get excited.

SuperCoach promo for this season's cricket

Peter Siddle may seem like a high-priced bench option, but at this stage before the season start he sits there until the Strikers have confirmed their starting side for the opening game.

If he’s named, he’ll replace one of the cheaper options on-field.

Elsewhere, I’m stacking my bench with kids, kids, and more kids, and hoping that the likes of 18-year-old Jack Edwards, explosive top order batsman Max Bryant, and Nick Winter earn enough points to quickly buy-and-sell.

Mark Howard has found room for both Chris Lynn and Dwayne Bravo in his team.

Starting XI:

Chris Lynn - Brisbane Heat | BAT | $202,000

Too good not to have for Round 1 when the Heat double up and he can maximise his value.

Mitch Marsh - Perth Scorchers | BAT / BWL | $198,000

If Marsh is named for the opening round, he should be playing both games, with the Scorchers, like the Heat, having two scoring opportunities in the SuperCoach BBL Round 1.

Jake Weatherald was part of the title-winning Strikers team last season.
Jake Weatherald was part of the title-winning Strikers team last season.

Jake Weatherald - Adelaide Strikers | BAT | $144,600

I saw enough of Weatherald last season to understand the value that he brings to proceedings, and he’s consistent enough to justify picking him despite his price.

Ben McDermott - Hobart Hurricanes | BAT / WKP | $115,300

Explosive and good enough to have already debuted for Australia, McDermott is a player who should be looking to maximise his Big Bash season to push for higher honours.

Brendon McCullum - Brisbane Heat | BAT | $113,100

The veteran Kiwi slugger is too tempting at that price despite having the double bye in Rounds 2 and 3 - his double point opportunities make up for it.

Jos Buttler - Sydney Thunder | WKP / BAT | $160,200

Without a bye until he likely leaves the competition for international adventures, Buttler is one of the best players of the shortest form of the game in the world. Gotta have him.

It will be hard to keep Jos Buttler out of BBL08 SuperCoach teams.

Dwayne Bravo - Melbourne Stars | BWL / BAT | $204,300

Speaking of the best players of T20, that’s the same reason that I want Bravo in my starting side - he’s too good to waste time thinking about. Just get him in!

Arjun Nair - Sydney Thunder | BWL / BAT | $138,500

He missed the chance to represent NSW at the JLT Cup with a back injury, but I’m confident that Nair will be an important part of the Thunder’s line-up this season.

Ben Dwarshuis - Sydney Sixers | BWL / BAT | $137,400

He’s not a fashionable name, but that’s why I’m hoping that the versatile Dwarshuis can be a point of difference for Howie’s Heroes.

Ben Laughlin - Adelaide Strikers | BWL | $136,000

Another player who won’t necessarily be a pick for most sides, I’m hoping that the uniqueness that Laughlin possesses means he really comes into his own in BBL08.

Hilton Cartwright could provide some value to SuperCoach teams.
Hilton Cartwright could provide some value to SuperCoach teams.

Hilton Cartwright - Perth Scorchers | BWL / BAT | $90,300

Cartwright has the double in Round 1 and has been a consistent performer for the Scorchers, albeit more as a pure batsman than a bowler in BBL07. A perfect selection for the final bowler spot.

Bench:

Jack Edwards - Sydney Sixers | BAT / BWL | $42,000

Young and super exciting, Edwards could easily emerge as the boom player for the Sixers this season.

Max Bryant - Brisbane Heat | BAT | $42,000

At that low, low price, Bryant is too tempting to not sit on the bench - he’s a super exciting talent.

Josh Phillippe - Sydney Sixers | WKP / BAT | $42,000

Shane Warne has sung his praises for some time, and when the great man speaks, you better listen.

SuperCoach BBL: Cheapie watch

Peter Siddle - Adelaide Strikers | BWL | $147,700

A veteran pick for the bench, the likelihood is that I’ll bring him into my starting side before the season begins if he’s named.

Nick Winter - Adelaide Strikers | BWL | $42,000

Another left-arm quick, Winter has had a strong start to the domestic cricketing summer, and there’s no reason not to expect that he’ll debut for the reigning champs in his second season there.
