After missing all of 2020, the state’s best young footy players have been dealt another lockdown blow – and this one comes just days before a draft.

Football’s brightest young talents in Victoria have been robbed of a final chance to show off their wares before next Wednesday’s mid-season draft.

NAB League games scheduled for this weekend have been postponed because of the state’s seven-day Covid-19 lockdown.

The Herald Sun’s live stream of the Northern Knights taking on Geelong Falcons has also been postponed until later in the season.

Live streamed matches exclusive to HeraldSun.com.au will return when the season resumes.

High-rating performances this weekend could have shored up a shot at an AFL career for some of the leading mid-season draft contenders.

Ruckmen and NAB League stars Jacob Edwards and Ned Moyle were two players to have nominated for next Wednesday’s mid-year draft.

Both players had their 2020 season ruined by Covid-19 lockdowns.

Former Crows player Tyson Stengle, who has been linked to Collingwood, will play in the SANFL this weekend.

Sandringham Dragon Edwards is expected to head to North Melbourne with the first pick in the virtual draft as a 202cm ruckman, while Oakleigh Chargers ruckman Moyle also has suitors including Hawthorn, Collingwood and Gold Coast.

Moyle has played VFL football with Collingwood in recent weeks in the NAB League hiatus.

Rivals believe Carlton, now with two selections after David Cuningham’s ACL tear, are looking at Old Ivanhoe ruck Alex Mirkov after he played two VFL games with the club’s VFL side.

Essendon has also been linked to Eastern Ranges small forward Corey Preston, who played last weekend with the Footscray VFL side.
