Katherine Cai, a finalist in the $10,000 a year Lendlease Bradfield Urbanisation Scholarship, has proposed hubs dedicated to health, education, commerce and leisure.

Ms Cai’s call comes after the Greater Sydney Commission released its ambitious “three cities” plan that calls for Sydney to be split into three regions based in the CBD, Parramatta and Badgerys Creek.
She said developers must prioritise building transport links to the west in order to ease congestion and improve liveability for more residents.
“Continuing the focus on developing Sydney’s CBD means we are potentially missing significant benefits for our economy in the long run,” she said.
“Sydney is so massive. I feel we can use that potential to grow these different hubs with different functions.
“For example, we could build health, agriculture or sustainability hubs to make Sydney more diverse than just the CBD, which is a centre for economic services.”
The prestigious scholarship, which is part of The Daily Telegraph’s Project Sydney: Bradfield campaign, is open to first and second-year University of Sydney students.
The winner will be announced on the night of Monday, November 19.
