SITTING down to create Sydney’s next great building, Angelina El Maalouf decided it needed to be something out of this world.
The Year 6 student from St Patrick’s Primary School Guildford wanted to build a space museum and observatory so “more research could be done to find another planet that is suitable for us to live in”.
Angelina, and a number of her fellow students, submitted their ideas after the The Daily Telegraph called out to NSW public school students to design Sydney’s next great building.
Her design was chosen as the best among hundreds of entries from students around the state.
Judging the entries, Sydney University architecture student and 2019 Bradfield Scholarship finalist Olivia D’souza said a new observatory in Darling Harbour combining craft facilities for kids and space research was a great idea – especially coming in the wake of Australia launching its space program last year.
“The device for moving between floors is an excellent design proposal,” Ms D’souza said.
The design won the Western Sydney student the chance to take her whole class to Luna Park.
