Waverley Greens: Restaurant, cafe, announced for Mirvac project at former Waverley bowling club

An Italian restaurant and bar and a cafe overlooking the revamped bowling green will soon open to residents and visitors of the hotly anticipated Waverley Greens redevelopment. Find out what’s in store.

High-end Italian fare and a wine bar will join classic pub favourites like burgers and chips at two newly-announced hospitality venues set to open at the revamped Waverley Greens.

A restaurant and cafe are set to open to the public next month alongside the renovated bowling greens, as the long-awaited $80m Mirvac redevelopment of the Waverley Bowling Club site nears completion.

The Easts Group joined forces with Mirvac to reimagine the former bowling club site, with a new registered clubhouse and two bowling greens, as well as two basement levels for 149 cars, a gym and swimming pool.

Mirvac began construction on the on The Langlee residential project in April 2021 which includes 55 luxury apartments and penthouses across four buildings, as well as a resident-only wellness centre comprising a 20m indoor lap pool, treatment and steam rooms, gym and yoga and stretching space.

Now two hotly anticipated food venues helmed by Blond Catering – The Ambry Bar & Restaurant and Henrietta Street Cafe – have been announced to cater to residents and visitors to the bowling club alike.

Blond Catering director and executive chef Jesper Hansen said the focus for Easts Group was to ensure the community spirit of the original bowling club was retained.

“I’m excited about [building on] that community atmosphere that was at the old clubhouse,” Mr Hansen said.

In describing his vision, he name dropped the eponymous Danish word “hygge”.

“It’s about coming together,” he said of the hygge philosophy.

The open-plan restaurant overlooking the bowling green will feature earth-toned interiors of wood floors and tiles to complement the menu of modern Australian classics and Italian fare.

“We are still a club, so there are still the burgers and the schnittys on the menu,” Mr Hansen assured.

Henrietta Street Café will serve coffee and baked goods for busy residents on the go along with 40 seats for people to enjoy relaxed coffees and more substantial meals.

“We want to make sure that continues in the new venue, where you don’t need to book at table, even if you are 10 people, there’s always room for you and you can always pop in,” he said.

Sydney Roosters and Easts Group CEO Joe Kelly previously said the partnership to re-envision one of the oldest bowlos in the country had been a success, amid a raft of bowling club closures.

“We are only one of a handful of clubs in NSW that have incorporated a brand new championship outdoor bowling facility into a new redevelopment,” Mr Kelly said.

The venues are set to open in coming weeks.
