While Waverley Bowling Club members are eagerly anticipating their glitzy new clubhouse and bowling greens, it seems no expense has been spared on the residential component of the redevelopment either.
Developer Mirvac has given Wentworth Courier readers an exclusive peek at the plans for the art deco inspired wellness centre which will be located inside the old clubhouse along with never before seen artist impressions of the overall project.
As part of the terms of the $83 million redevelopment, Mirvac will provide the world class facilities for the bowlers at the Sydney Rooster’s Easts Group owned club while creating a 55 apartment high end seniors development.
Last week Mirvac opened a display gallery at Bondi Beach to drum up interest in the residential component ahead of their 2022 sales campaign.
The residential side of the development, known as The Langlee, will be centred around the old bowling club which is to be converted into a wellness centre.
It can now be revealed the facility will boast a 20 metre indoor lap pool, steam room, treatment room and change facilities on the ground level, while on the mezzanine floor above there will be a resident gym area, yoga and stretching space.
Mirvac’s General Manager of Design, Diana Sarcasmo, said the wellness centre would honour its origins as St Gabriel’s School when it was built in the 1950s.
“This centrepiece is a perfect example of our ability to treat heritage items with the respect and care they require by applying our design and construction skills to give a new purpose for a modern age,” Ms Sarcasmo said.
“A similar approach was taken at the Moreton at Bondi where Moreton Manor was carefully and meticulously restored.
“We have planned to adapt what was originally the assembly hall of St Gabriel’s School. This was an important structure to be retained on site, and we have reimagined it as a beautiful, contemporary but respectful building that will serve the health and wellbeing of future residents.”
Mirvac’s General Manager Residential NSW, Toby Long, said Covid lockdowns had reaffirmed their commitment to providing the high end wellness facility.
“Events over the past 18 months have highlighted the importance of creating places that people are proud to call home, where they may need to stay for extended periods, prioritising health and wellbeing,” Mr Long said.
“Looking beyond the pandemic there is an unmistakeable trend towards living environments which include a high level of amenity that deliver health and social benefits.
“Health and wellness are among the biggest global trends today and you only have to observe Bondi
Beach to see that keeping fit and healthy is a preoccupation of people of all ages.”
Mirvac broke ground on the project in April this year and it is anticipated to be completed in 2023.
