Salvation Army open new Salvos store on Oxford Street Bondi Junction

Burberry to your left, Gucci on the right and a $1000 Zimmerman trench coat going for just $150 on the rack: This is a Salvos store like no other – and it opens next week.

Small business is the ‘backbone’ of Australia, says Salvos Commanding officer

A Salvos with a difference is set to open – and it’s packed with designer clothes for bargain prices.

The new Salvos will open next Thursday on Oxford Street in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

And surely it will be the fanciest Salvos store in all of Australia.

Front and centre of the store is the “O by Salvos” boutique section which will boast a dazzling array of high end brands at a third or less of their regular retail price.

Among the highlights include a pair of Golden Goose mens sneakers in impeccable condition which retail for up to $800 available for just $200.

A Zimmerman trench coat which sells for over $1000 new is marked at just $150.

There are designer handbags from YSL and Louis Vuitton and there’s a fetching pair of Burberry trousers and a Gucci jacket for the men.

Sought after Australian brands such as Sass and Bide and Camilla and Marc can also be picked up for as little as $40.

The rest of the store is similarly impressive with even the “regular” menswear section dominated by the likes of Ralph Lauren and you’re more likely to snag Seafolly than Kmart in the swimwear aisle.

This will be the third “O by Salvos” concept store trialled in Australia with the other two opening in Melbourne and Marrickville earlier this year – though none quite as spectacular as the Bondi offering.

The O symbolises both the last letter of Salvo and the circular economy created by the cycle of sustainability.

Store manager Tyasha Berden has decades of retail experience working in traditional boutiques and this is her first foray into the realm of a charity thrift store.

“Something was calling me to come to work with the Salvos – I am so impressed by the charity work they do,” Ms Berden said.

“I must say the approach they have here is remarkable – I have never seen anything like this.

“The clientele will come here because it is special both because of what is on the label and because of the price.

“We expect this will become a real destination store.”

The new Oxford Street store is looking for both good quality donations and volunteers.

It is open Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm.
