A Bronte man has been charged after allegedly threatening a taxi driver in the CBD before taking off in the cab only for it to be found weeks later in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

A 42-year old Bronte man has been charged with allegedly threatening a taxi driver and damaging the cab before stealing the car and making a daring get away.
About 8:50pm on Friday November 4, a silver taxi was parked on Hunter St in Sydney’s CBD when an unknown man allegedly damaged the vehicle.
Police allege the man threatened the taxi driver, a 52-year-old man, before allegedly stealing the taxi and fleeing from the scene.
Weeks later, following inquiries — including a social media appeal for information — the taxi was found in Woollahra, having sustained significant damage.
On Thursday, the 42-year-old man who is alleged to have threatened the taxi driver and stolen the car attended Waverley Police Station.
The Bronte man has been charged with taking and driving conveyance without the consent of the owner, driving recklessly or speeding in a dangerous manner and driving under the influence of alcohol.
He was granted conditional bail, and is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on December 7.
