The alleged stalker of Newcastle Knights legend Andrew Johns, who reportedly followed the rugby legend to his home, has seen the charges against him dismissed on mental health grounds in court.

On Wednesday, Blake Moses, 27, appeared in the docks at Waverley Local Court charged with stalking/intimidate and breaching bail. He did not enter any pleas.

Johns allegedly encountered Moses when he was surfing at Bronte Beach on March 29.

Police allege Moses followed Johns into the water and stared at him. He then allegedly went to Johns’ home and paced around on the footpath at the front of the address.

The next day, Moses is alleged to have continued following Johns.

Johns allegedly spotted Moses at a cafe on March 30 where he allegedly stood near the rugby league legend and stared at him for an extended time.

The next day Johns reported the matter to police who arrested Moses.

“A man has been charged following an investigation by officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command into the alleged stalking of a 49-year-old man,” a NSW Police spokesperson said in a statement at the time.

“On Sunday 31 March 2024, a 27-year-old man was charged with stalking and refused bail.

“He appeared before Parramatta Local Court yesterday (1 April 2024) and was granted bail.”

However, when police went to carry out a check on Moses as part of his bail conditions, the Bondi address he was due to be residing at allegedly did not exist.

In court, Magistrate Michael Barko told Moses he did not want to see anything similar happen to another rugby league identity or organisation.

Moses, who is listed in court documents as living in Port Macquarie, was discharged to the care of a mental health service.

A two-year apprehended personal violence order was taken out for the protection of Johns on a ‘without admissions’ basis. The conditions of the AVO prohibit Moses from threatening or assaulting Johns, as well as damaging his property or any animal he owns.

The breach of bail was established at a previous court date and the matter was dismissed on mental health grounds.
