After going to the gym, a Sydney woman punctured a man’s lungs with a pair of scissors and then left him in the street with a “blood patch the size of a tennis ball”, a court heard.

Raquel De Ohata, 38, of South Coogee fronted Downing Centre Local Court on Monday after pleading guilty to reckless wounding.

De Ohata knew the victim’s girlfriend, who previously lived in her apartment building, a court heard.

Police facts tendered to court state the scissor attack occurred after the 38-year-old visited Coogee Diggers Club and Gym on March 27, last year.

Just before 6:30pm, De Ohata spotted the victim near a bus stop on Bundock St.

When the victim pointed out a pair of scissors, De Ohata ran to the other side of the road and they started to yell at each other. At one point, De Ohata said, “I am going to get your girl for this,” a court heard.

Not long after the victim called his girlfriend to warn her about De Ohata, he “felt a stabbing pain in his right shoulder,” police facts state.

“The victim turned around and (De Ohata) was standing behind him before she started running away”.

He screamed “She stabbed me! You stabbed me” and attempted to chase De Ohata before giving up and reaching for his right shoulder blade while appearing “to be in shock,” a court heard.

“(A man) went out to assist the victim … (who) was yelling ‘I’ve been stabbed’,” according to police facts.

“(The man) could see the victim’s right shoulder and a blood patch the size of a tennis ball.

“The victim stood up and said ‘I am Chinese, I am strong, I’ll be right’ and started walking in a westerly direction”.

By the time police arrived, a number of residents had gathered on the street.

The victim told officers De Ohata had asked to borrow money and he had met her around four times before. He was taken to hospital with a punctured lung.

When officers visited De Ohata’s home and asked why she had “a load of washing” in the machine, she “became aggressive”, a court heard.

In court, the matter was adjourned so a mental health application could be prepared.

De Ohata will next return to court on July 30.
