A man has died after a head-on collision involving a car and semi-trailer on the Hume Hwy, near Holbrook, in the state’s south.

A man has died following a head-on collision on the Hume Hwy in the state’s south.

Officers from Murray River Police District were called to Woomargama, 15km south of Holbrook, about 3am following reports of a crash.

Emergency services arrived to find a Toyota Yaris, which had been travelling southbound, and had collided head-on with a semi-trailer, travelling northbound, in the northbound lanes.

The driver, and sole occupant, of the car died at the scene. He has not been identified.

Police said the truck driver was not injured and was taken to Albury Base Hospital for mandatory testing.

“An investigation is now underway into the circumstances leading up to the crash, including why the car was on the wrong side of the highway,” a NSW Police statement read.

“Anyone with information about the crash – or who has dashcam of the vehicles involved – is urged to contact Albury Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000”.

Police said diversions were in place via the Olympic Way and updates are provided on www.livetraffic.com.
