Thousands of homes and jobs to be decided in $527m development fast track plan

Thousands of jobs and homes, as well as a massive $527 million in development, could be approved by the NSW Planning Department as part of its sixth tranche of the Planning System Acceleration Program.
Planning Minister Rob Stokes has revealed exclusively with NewsLocal the 11 major projects to be determined through the fastback program by October 6, including major plans for an additional 500 homes in Penrith under a $126 million planning proposal by Lendlease.
Mr Stokes said the government was working to get “shovel-ready projects out the door to help NSW rebound from this crisis”.
“Our short-term drive to create a steady supply of jobs and investment has been a great success, with work already starting on construction sites across the state,” he said.
“With our nation in a recession, boosting the economy and creating jobs is more important than ever.”
He said 100 project will have been determined through the fast track program by the end of the sixth and final tranche.
$53 million plans for the redevelopment of Fort St Public School in Sydney, in an effort to more than double the capacity of the school, are included in the plans, as well as a $62.3 million proposal for an 18-storey student accommodation development across from the University of Sydney.
Plans for a $50 million residential subdivision in Coffs Harbour have also been fast-tracked as part of the program, as well as a North Sydney proposal for a $49 million science and learning building at Monte Sant’ Angelo Mercy College.
The ET Australia School’s vision to relocate the existing school to two new campuses will also be determined through the fast track program, as well as $51 million modification plans by Jemena Gas for the Port Kembla Lateral Pipeline.
Major planning proposals for future development will also be determined by October 9, including the rezoning of rural land at Macquariedale Rd, Appin for housing under a $70 million plan by the Walker Group. While Oran Park residents would benefit from the approval of a $30 million plan for the town centre.
In Parramatta, plans for a 155-room hotel in Aird St will be determined, will medium density housing in Barton St, Monterey will also be assessed.
