Fast tracked developments: The tranche five projects to revive NSW’s economy post COVID-19

Ten major developments to the value of more than $3 billion — expected to generate 100,000 jobs — have been approved by the NSW Government as part of the response to the COVID — 19 financial crisis.

The fifth tranche of the government’s fast-tracked planning program saw the a multibillion-dollar vision for 6500 hectares of employment and residential land across five different precincts given the green light in the booming Western Sydney Aerotropolis.

Planning Minister Rob Stokes forecast the development of the Aerotropolis Core, Badgerys Creek, Northern Gateway, Agribusiness and Wianamatta-South Creek environmental spine before planes take off in 2026.

“These first five precincts will deliver much-needed jobs growth to Western Sydney, providing the potential for 100,000 new jobs, as well as homes for 30,000 residents once fully developed,” Mr Stokes said.

While Western Sydney and Jobs Minister Stuart Ayres said the approval “lays the foundations for the transformation of 6500ha of land into a thriving metropolis with new homes, jobs and public spaces supported by a new, world-class Metro line”.

Other projects given the tick of approval in western Sydney include the $50 million plans for a new primary school to cater to close to 1000 students at East Leppington alongside two multimillion-dollar planning proposals by Dyldam and Toplace for 430 new homes in a high-rise residential development at 87 Church St and residential tower for 189 Macquarie St.

The $137 million Meadowbank Multi-Trades and Digital Tech Hub was also given the green light, with plans expected to include dozens of workspaces, workshops, seminar rooms and “industry engagement spaces.

Last week, NewsLocal also revealed a $213 million plan approved for the Light Horse Interchange Business Hub at Eastern Creek.

While in the Inner West, Transport for NSW’s $2.45 billion Sydney Gateway project was also given the stamp of approval by the government. The massive transport link, earmarked to link WestConnex to Sydney Airport will generate around 1000 jobs and reduce trucks on local roads.

On the south coast, a $7 million hand sanitiser factory will be built out of a repurposed industrial estate, while just outside the Hunter Valley a music school will be built inside a former council office at Musswellbrook.

Port Macquarie Airport is set to benefit from a $58 million plan by council for a business park approved.
