Wagga police and the distraught owners of a nine-week-old puppy are appealing for public help after the cavoodle was stolen from their home during a break and enter in Springvale.
Police Inspector Adrian Telfer said they are investigating a number of break and enters at Springvale in the early hours of May 8 when the puppy, a black cavoodle, was taken.
“Unfortunately a number of residents were broken into. We’re still looking exactly at how this unfolded. This puppy was removed whilst the residents were asleep at home,” Inspector Telfer said.
“We believe it's a unique thing to steal. The owners are obviously quite distressed about that and they're obviously looking for that to be returned.
“This is very rare that you see a pet stolen from a property ... it is quite concerning. We do believe that it is still out there, so please if you do have information, come forward.”
The puppy is reportedly worth about $3500 and Inspector Telfer said the owners had no financial concerns but that they were “obviously very worried about the puppy that they love”.
He said a number of other items in the house were also reported to be stolen.
In a social media post, owner Georgia Klemke said: “Please, if you are the person who has Theo or you know who does, leave him at a vet anonymously if you wish. We don’t care who you are we just want him back”.
“Whoever has done this has taken our new cavoodle puppy Theo from his bed in our lounge room. He’s only nine weeks old and we’ve only had him for one. The most important thing to us is the puppy so please if anyone has heard or seen anything could they let us or the police know.”
