Fresh details of an alleged police standoff and kidnapping have been revealed as the man accused of the offences made a bid for freedom.

Carl Little, 28, who was before the Supreme Court on Tuesday, faces a raft of charges relating to a major police incident culminating in his arrest at the Quest Hotel Apartments on Gurwood St in Wagga on April 1.

Little, from Ashmont, had been staying at the Quest Apartments at the time, the court heard.

Police allege he broke through a connecting hotel door into an unknown woman’s room – after her partner had left.

“She wakes up to hear someone in the apartment. She thinks it’s her partner. It’s not,” Judge Robert Hulme said in court on Tuesday.

Police allegations read out in court state she heard Little mention a gun, before she was told to go back to her bedroom.

She then rang her partner and during an eight minute conversation told him she was “worried he might kill me and hurt me,” the court heard.

“She’s terrified,” Judge Hulme said.

Little’s defence claim the incident was misunderstood.

The door “was unlocked, as though he was let in” his defence argued in court.

Tactical police units were later called and Little was arrested following a stand off.

Little was charged with assault, intimidating a police officer, break and enter to commit a serious indictable offence, kidnapping a person intending to obtain an advantage and possessing prohibited drugs.

He also faces three counts of common assault and one count each of police pursuit, stealing a car, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, relating to earlier alleged offences.

Following the earlier alleged offences he was granted bail.

While on bail, he was also involved in a police pursuit on a motorbike and posted threatening Facebook messages about a Riverina Police District officer, the court heard.

In the Supreme Court on Tuesday Little attempted to get bail to stay with his sister.

The court heard his sister helped him avoid police apprehension prior to his arrest and that she has a criminal record.

She denied she has a criminal record.

Judge Hulme denied bail, meaning Little will remain on remand from Bathurst Correctional Centre – where he appeared via audiovisual link on Tuesday.

In making his bail application, Little’s defence told the court he had extensive community ties in Wagga, with seven other siblings, some of whom he looked after.

The court heard that while in custody, he was arranging for the selling of personal items to help support the family.

“It’s very difficult without him,” his defence said.

The Wagga abattoir worker will now likely spend a long time in custody on remand, with the court hearing his case would be delayed substantially.
