Two men have been arrested after a morning police pursuit that led to a car carrying allegedly stolen goods rolling and landing on its roof.

Just before 7am on Wednesday, Wagga police were patrolling the Ashmont area where they saw a green Ford Falcon sedan without number plates on Cottee Street.

Police then activated their sirens and chased the Falcon as it drove into Ashmont Skate Park where the driver lost control and rolled it.

Wagga Police Inspector John Aichinger said chase lasted about five seconds.

The driver then fled on foot while the passenger, who sustained minor injuries, was arrested at the scene.

The driver has now been identified and arrested.

“In the boot of the car was a large amount of property (allegedly) stolen from a work site in the Bourkelands area last night,” Inspector Aichinger said.

“We had a good idea of who the driver was.”

The property will now be returned to the owner.

Inspector Aichinger said penalties in relation to breaching coronavirus measures may also be imposed after investigations are finalised.

The passenger sustained cuts to the head and a sore shoulder, and was taken to Wagga Base Hospital for treatment.

Police are yet to lay charges, but Inspector Aichinger indicated they may be in relation to police pursuit, stolen property and driving.

Meanwhile, police are appealing for public help in relation to a taxi driver being threatened on Tuesday night.

About 9pm, a male taxi driver picked up two men in Bruce Street, Tolland.

The men directed the driver to Heath Street near Fernleigh Road in Mount Austin before one of them used a knife to threaten the taxi driver.

The driver did not sustain any injuries.

“The two people in that vehicle then took control of the taxi and kicked the driver out and driven the vehicle around the corner that was subsequently dumped at Heath Street at Turvey Park,” Inspector Aichinger said.

“The two men are described as young and wearing hoodies.”

Anyone with more information is urged to contact Wagga Police Station on 6922 2599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
