An elderly man will spend the weekend behind bars on remand after he allegedly led police on a pursuit through Nelligen and Batemans Bay on Friday that culminated with a dramatic arrest near McDonald’s.

Larry Joseph Bolan, 79, of Tilba Tilba, did not apply for bail on charges of dangerous driving, police pursuit - not stop, two counts of driving while never licenced, and resisting arrest.

Police will allege Highway Patrol officers attempted to stop Bolan on the Kings Highway at Nelligen about 9.20am.

When Bolan allegedly failed to stop, police started a pursuit.

Bolan’s sedan was finally stopped near the intersection of the Princes Highway and Beach Road next to McDonald’s, where he allegedly refused to get out of the vehicle.

He was forcefully removed from the car and arrested before being taken to Batemans Bay Police Station and charged.

Bolan will next appear in Batemans Bay Local Court later this month.
