A 37-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man have been charged with the murder of beloved Nowra teen Taj Hart after the 18-year-old was killed in a hit-and-run in February.
Police investigators arrested the pair at a cabin on Mona Vale Rd in Terrey Hills, north Sydney, around 9am on Thursday, concluding a months-long investigation into Mr Hart's death.
Emergency services responded to reports of a man being hit by a ute on Old Southern Rd at about 3pm on February 24.
When NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived, Mr Hart was being assisted by passing motorists at the scene.
He was then taken by paramedics to Shoalhaven District Hospital where he died a short time later.
In February, officers from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad joined investigators from the South Coast Police District in establishing Strike Force Altos to investigate Mr Hart’s murder.
The following month, officers identified and seized a white Mitsubishi Triton utility believed to be involved in the incident from a Currarong address.
Dashcam footage of the seized ute captured shortly before the fatal collision was released by police in the hope members of the public could identify the driver, triggering a fresh outpouring of grief in the community.
Mr Hart’s older brother, Tyson Hart, remembered his sibling as a much-loved member of the family and the community.
“He was kind-hearted, he had so many friends and knew so many people in this town,” he said.
“The incident is horrific … (We will do) anything that helps bring the people in (to police) that stole my little brother from us.”
The man and woman were taken to the Manly Police Station on Thursday after their arrest and were charged with murder.
They will appear before Manly Local Court on April 7 charged with murder.
