James Kell accused of New Year’s Day crash that killed Taylor Prior in Nowra

The identity of a man accused of a head-on crash that killed a well known local hairdresser on the NSW south coast on New Year’s Day has been revealed.

Currarong man James Kell was accused of being responsible for the fatal crash that killed 26-year-old Taylor Prior, and did not appear at the Nowra Local Court on Monday when the case was first mentioned.

The 20-year-old is charged with negligent driving and driving dangerously occasioning death after the fatal crash on Curranong Rd at around 10.30am on January 1.

Emergency services were called to the busy seaside road near Currarong and Jervis Bay following reports that a Subaru Forester and a Hyundai sedan had collided.

Kell, who was driving the Hyundai, was treated by paramedics for minor injuries before being flown to Wollongong Hospital as a precaution, according to police.

Ms Prior died at the scene.

An investigation was launched by officers from the Southern Crash Investigation Unit into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Following inquiries, the 20-year-old was issued a Future Court Attendance Notice on January 28.

On Monday, Magistrate McRobert approved the police prosecutor's calls for an eight-week adjournment so that a police brief could be produced.

Kell will return to court on May 10 when the brief is expected to be served - no pleas have been entered.
