A south coast man has denied assaulting a person close to him, allegedly causing serious injury before it is claimed he smashed her phone, broke two televisions and put holes in a wall.
Stephen Roberts, 55, appeared in Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday, pleading not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of recklessly destroying or damaging property.
Police allege the Nelligen man visited the home of someone close to him on the evening of March 29 this year, when an altercation occurred.
It’s alleged that, during the altercation, Roberts assaulted and injured the woman.
Police also allege following the physical assault, Roberts smashed the woman’s Samsung Galaxy smartphone and destroyed two televisions in the apartment.
Police allege the assault ended with the Nelligen man punching multiple holes in a wall.
Police were called to the scene following the alleged assault, before arresting and charging Roberts the next day.
He was later granted bail in the Batemans Bay Local Court.
In the same court on Monday, Robert’s lawyer, Samantha Henry, entered pleas of not guilty on her client’s behalf.
She said two witnesses would help her client’s case and, therefore, a reasonably lengthy adjournment would be required.
Magistrate Doug Dick noted the prosecution would also have witnesses at the hearing.
Roberts’ matter was ultimately adjourned to August 12 for a hearing.
The 55-year-old man’s bail was continued, alongside an apprehended violence order.
