A man has denied breaking into a south coast museum, where he allegedly stole money from charity boxes, as well as tools and technology.

Joshua Wood, 27, faced Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday, when he pleaded not guilty to breaking and entering with intent to commit a serious indictable offence.

Documents tendered to the court allege the Batemans Bay man broke into the Batemans Bay Heritage Museum in late March this year.

Police allege Wood stole a whipper snipper, edger, extension cord, shovels, gardening rakes, hand tools, a first aid kit, a laptop, an Apple iPad, tea, coffee, two rolls of black garbage bags, assorted pennies and $250 cash, including cash from charity boxes.

Police responded to the scene the following day and, after three months of investigations, arrested and charged Wood on June 4.

The court did not hear how Wood allegedly broke into the museum, and police documents did not reveal that detail.

The 27-year-old man was granted bail in the Batemans Bay Local Court the day after his arrest.

In the same court on Monday, Wood’s lawyer, Luke Turner, said the matter needed to be adjourned to allow forensic investigations at the scene of the museum to be completed before the case could move to a hearing.

Magistrate Doug Dick said, in order for forensics to be completed, an adjournment of seven weeks would be required.

Mr Dick noted Wood had allegedly breached two community correction orders, which would be considered in any hearing.

Wood will return to court on August 12, when a hearing date is expected to be set.
