The RSPCA has seized more than a dozen dogs, including puppies, from a NSW south coast property after learning the canines were allegedly under the control of a person banned from owning animals.
The not-for-profit has revealed 16 dogs were seized from a Shoalhaven property on July 10, following reports the owner was a person previously banned by the NSW Local Court from purchasing, acquiring, or taking possession or custody of animals for 10 years.
Eleven of the dogs seized were puppies, ranging from eight to 12 weeks old.
A spokeswoman for RSPCA NSW said the organisation, along with NSW Police, had previously seized 90 animals from the convicted person on three separate occasions since 2018, when the prohibition order was made.
These animals included exotic parrots, birds, guinea pigs, rabbits, dogs, and puppies.
She said the seizure was part of an ongoing investigation into animal cruelty in NSW.
The owner of the seized dogs and puppies has not been charged, but the RSPCA spokeswoman said investigations were ongoing and a determination as to the commencement of proceedings would be made following RSPCA NSW inspectorate and legal processes.
“This is an RSPCA NSW investigation and, as such, has not been referred to NSW Police,” she said.
“RSPCA NSW possesses the power to enforce the provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1979 in NSW.”
