Robert Hood: Alleged Bomaderry date rape drug supplier released on bail

A man accused of supplying GHB – a well-known date rape drug – around a small NSW South Coast town, has been released on bail.

A man accused of supplying a well-known date rape drug around a small NSW South Coast town – as well as allegedly possessing various other illicit drugs and a weapon – has been released on bail.

Robert Hood, 40, faced Nowra District Court on Friday, facing charges of supplying a commercial quantity of a prohibited drug, possessing a prohibited weapon without a permit and three counts of possessing prohibited drugs.

The Bomaderry man is yet to enter pleas to the alleged offences.

Documents tendered to the court state Hood was allegedly supplying Gamma-Hydroxybutyric – better known as GHB – around the Bomaderry area on May 22 last year.

Police allege Hood supplied 1.7 litres of the drug, a thick liquid commonly used to spike alcoholic drinks, putting the drinker to sleep, leaving them with little to no memory.

The documents also state Hood was arrested on the same date and had his Bomaderry home searched, following extensive investigations by the South Coast Police District.

The search of his home allegedly led to the discovery of 1.79 grams of methamphetamine, three grams of cannabis and an extra 1.4 litres of GHB.

Police also allegedly uncovered a prohibited weapon, however court documents did not reveal what the item was.

Hood was ultimately arrested on the same date, before being refused bail at the Nowra Local Court.

On Friday, Hood’s lawyer Bret Ford mentioned his client had been in custody at the South Coast Correctional Centre since, before asking conditional bail be granted.

Director of Public Prosecutions representative Elissa Costigan opposed bail, given the danger the alleged drugs imposed on the community.

However, Magistrate Gabriel Flemming ultimately granted bail, on the condition Hood attend the Oolong House – a Nowra organisation which provides residential treatment for men who may have problems with alcohol and other drugs.

Hood’s matter will return to Nowra District Court on March 22 for charge certification.
