Peter Moore: Bomaderry OAM cricketer guilty to producing and possessing child abuse material

He once received one of the nation’s highest honours, but this “pillar” of the community will now be better known as a deviant, after one vile act at a birthday party unearthed a torrent of despicable offending.

A highly respected community cricketing stalwart and recipient of one of Australia’s top civilian honours told police he liked minors “for their size, not their age” after being caught secretly filming girls for his “sexual gratification” across the South Coast.

Peter Moore, of Bomaderry, fronted Nowra Local Court on Tuesday after his disturbing obsession was exposed when he was caught filming a girl at a birthday party last year.

Court documents reveal Moore, 52, secretly filmed the girl four times before being confronted by party organisers, who took his phone and called police.

Officers arrived, viewed the footage and seized the device.

Forensic analysis and a mass download of the phone uncovered 58,000 illegal images and 880 explicit videos, primarily focused on girls across the Shoalhaven.

Agreed facts state the footage often zoomed in on private areas while Moore followed victims in public without their knowledge.

In one video, taken at Berry Markets in October 2024, Moore recorded a girl for more than a minute, before screenshotting the video more than 200 times.

Agreed facts state additional recordings taken at Nowra Mall in November showed Moore filming supermarket staff in sexual angles, with one clip running for a staggering 22 minutes.

Police also found two disturbing fictional stories written by Moore from 2016, describing a sexual encounter with children.

Moore was arrested on January 10 following an extensive probe of his phone.

He was charged with producing and possessing child abuse material, stalking, and three counts of behaving offensively in public.

Moore, who was awarded the medal of the Order of Australia in 2024 for contributions to cricket, pleaded guilty to all charges on Tuesday.

The Bomaderry man, who was once the president of the Fairfield Liverpool Cricket Association at the time of receiving the OAM, was described by then Cricket NSW CEO Lee Germon as a “pillar” of his community who had “contributed greatly to the game”.

Court documents state Moore admitted to police he filmed the videos for his “sexual gratification”.

However, he insisted he was sexually drawn to minors “for the size, not their age”.

Moore – who appeared in court via video link from custody – confirmed his pleas, before his lawyer, Brett Ford, requested a sentencing assessment report.

Magistrate Lisa Viney agreed, saying a report was needed given the case seriousness.

Moore will be sentenced on March 26.
