An early morning taxi trip on the state’s south coast turned into a terrifying experience for one cabbie after the elderly driver was allegedly chased on foot by a woman armed with a pair of scissors.

The 18-year-old Nowra woman allegedly entered the taxi on Elizabeth St, Nowra about 3.20am on Monday, before threatening the 62-year-old female driver with scissors and demanding she pull over.

The driver fled from the car on foot shortly after, but was pursued by the woman who demanded the cabbie hand over her phone.

The driver refused and contacted police.

Officers from the south coast Police District arrived soon after and attempted to arrest the woman, before she allegedly elbowed a male leading senior constable in the head and kicked a male senior constable in the leg.

She was arrested a short time later and taken to Nowra police station where she allegedly further assaulted police, allegedly spitting on a male constable and slapping and kicking another male senior constable in the stomach.

The woman was charged with aggravated assault with intent to take or drive a motor vehicle while armed with a weapon, resisting officer in execution of duty, and four counts of assaulting police officer in execution of duty, without actual bodily harm.

She was refused bail and appeared at Nowra Local Court October 10.
