An 11-year-old boy has died in hospital after being pulled from rough waters off the state’s South Coast.

An 11-year-old boy has died in hospital after being pulled from rough waters off the state’s South Coast.

Emergency services were called to Murramarang Beach at Bawley Point about 1.2pm on Friday following reports of a child caught in a rip.

About 2.30pm, an 11-year-old boy was retrieved from the water, according to a NSW Police statement.

He was taken to Batemans Bay Hospital in a critical condition, but unfortunately died a short time later.

Officers from the South Coast Police District have commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
