A Nowra man previously convicted of possessing child abuse material allegedly showed “no remorse” after being busted with a new cache of heinous material, including 338 videos of bestiality, a local court has learned.

Robert John Bickerstaff, 49, appeared at Nowra Local Court via video link from Parklea Correctional Facility on Tuesday.

He faces eight separate charges, including possessing child abuse and bestiality material, and breaking post-conviction reporting obligations.

Between September 24 to 26, police allege Bickerstaff used a carriage service to transmit or make available indecent material to a “fictitious” person he believed was only 13 years old.

Separately, police allege Bickerstaff is accused of possessing a cache of bestiality material, including 26 images and 338 videos depicting people “involved in sexual intercourse with a range of animals”.

Court documents seen by this publication reveal that Bickerstaff was previously sentenced to 15 months in prison for child abuse material-related offences.

Confronted with the fresh charges, police allege Bickerstaff “showed no remorse”.

“Bickerstaff stated he did nothing wrong,” police documents allege.

Police also allege Bickerstaff failed to comply with requirements under the Child Protection Registration Act that he provide police with his email address, social media and chatroom information, and “child details”.

Appearing at Nowra Local Court on Tuesday, lawyer Hannah Dreher said the matter would have to be adjourned while the Commonwealth and State Departments of Prosecution decided whether to take the case.

Magistrate Lisa Viney said: “That will have to be up to those agencies to determine.”

Bickerstaff will reappear before Nowra Local Court on December 20.
