Man charged after fatal crash on Princes Highway, Moruya on July 24

A 24-year-old has been charged following a “devastating crash” which left a south coast man dead and closed the Princes Highway for several hours.

A 24-year-old man has been charged following a fatal crash on the state’s south coast earlier this week.

A police officer who attended the scene said it was “just such a devastating crash”.

About 6.50am on Monday, July 24, emergency services were called to the Princes Highway, Moruya, following reports a Holden Colorado and a Suzuki Jimny had collided head-on.

The Suzuki driver - a 33-year-old man from Narooma - was freed by emergency services after being trapped for some time. He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

The 24-year-old man who was driving the Holden and his female passenger, aged 24, were also treated and taken to Moruya Hospital for assessment.

The man was transferred to Canberra Hospital for further treatment while the woman was released.

Officers attached to South Coast Police District established a crime scene which was forensically examined by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.

On Saturday the 24-year-old driver of the Holden attended Windsor Police Station and spoke with investigators before being charged with dangerous driving occasioning death.

The Hawkesbury man was granted conditional bail to appear at Moruya Local Court on Friday, October 6. His licence was also suspended.
