A NSW south coast woman accused of resisting police officers while hiding under a blanket, allegedly throwing various tools at them, was later found to have a shotgun shell stuffed in her bra, a court has heard.

The incident saw Kristy Cottee, 37, wind up in Nowra Local Court on Tuesday, entering pleas to charges of hindering/resisting police officers and possessing firearm ammunition without holding a licence or permit.

While the Bomaderry woman pleaded guilty to possessing the ammunition, she pleaded not guilty to resisting the police officers.

Documents tendered to the court reveal officers visited Cottee’s Bomaderry home on the evening of February 9 due to holding a warrant for her arrest.

Upon visiting the residence, police allege Cottee slammed the front door in their face before hiding in the house.

Having to forcefully enter, the officers spoke to other residents in the house who were described as “uncooperative” in agreed facts.

The police searched the house, before allegedly finding a “human shaped blanket” in the garage.

Documents state the police poked the blanket, causing Cottee’s voice to emerge, allegedly stating “f—k off”.

“Police called on [Cottee] to show her hands, where she [allegedly] kicked out at the officers,” agreed facts state.

The documents say Cottee allegedly reached her arm out to a workbench, throwing various tools at the officers, some making contact with their bodies.

“Officers then dispersed capsicum spray on Cottee,” agreed facts state.

While the spray initially had no effect, minutes later Cottee allegedly emerged from the blanket writhing in discomfort.

The 37-year-old was taken to the Shoalhaven District Hospital, where she was decontaminated of the capsicum spray and police conducted a search of her body.

It was this very search which saw the officers discover a 12 gauge shotgun shell hidden in the right cup of Cottee’s bra.

Police transported the Bomaderry woman to the Nowra Police Station, where she informed officers she could not remember how the shotgun shell ended up in her clothing.

Cottee was charged with the offences and issued a court attendance notice.

In Nowra Local Court on Tuesday, Cottee’s lawyer Caitlin Gooden asked the court to adjourn the matter to allow extra material to be provided regarding the hindering police charge.

The adjournment was not opposed by Magistrate Lisa Viney, who said she would give Cottee and her legal team two months.

Cottee’s matter will return to Nowra Local Court on April 2, where a hearing date is expected to be set.
