A Jervis Bay man who allegedly created and disseminated vile child abuse material from his seaside home will fight the charges.
Dyson Hogan was committed to stand trial at Sydney Downing Centre District Court on Wednesday on eight separate charges relating to child abuse material, including possession, production, and dissemination.
The 21-year-old was charged by police earlier this year with also using a carriage service to possess child abuse material, as well as transmitting, accessing, and soliciting material for more than a year.
Police allege Hogan used an iPhone on a Telstra network to gain access to child abuse material from September 2020 to November 2021, while residing at a property in St Georges Basin, south of Nowra.
Last month, a new charge of intentionally recording intimate images without consent was added by the Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecution.
Hogan allegedly accepted the police account of events and that he was responsible for the distribution of child abuse material, according to a sentence assessment report tendered to Nowra Local Court earlier this year.
“However, Hogan denies that the images provided him with any sexual pleasure or that he viewed any of the content,” the report states.
“He reported he felt isolated and attributed his offending to reacting out of fear, and felt he was unable to ask for help.
“He felt embarrassed by the situation and did not think of the consequences.”
Hogan, who is employed by a local supermarket, claimed to have not known any of the children who were involved with the images, the report reveals, or who they were sent by via social media.
He will reappear before the Sydney District Court in June 2023 for a readiness hearing.
The trial itself will take place on August 7 at Nowra District Court.
