An 80-year-old man has appeared in court and denied allegations he sexually touched a child
Hilton Cannon, of Callala Bay, faced Nowra Local Court on Tuesday on the charge of intentionally sexually touching a child between the age of 10 and 16.
Cannon previously pleaded not guilty to the serious charge on May 2 in the same court this year.
Documents tendered to the court state police allege Canon sexually touched a 14-year-old child in March at Callala Bay.
Cannon was arrested at his home three days after the alleged incident. He was granted bail on March 29.
In Nowra Local Court on Tuesday Cannon’s lawyer Brett Ford asked for the matter to be adjourned for more information to be provided.
The adjournment was not opposed by Magistrate Lisa Viney and the prosecution.
The police prosecutor told the court the charges were “serious”.
“There is no doubt these are bad charges, your honour,” he said.
Mrs Viney agreed, noting any accusations involving children needed to be taken seriously.
“We will adjourn to allow us to gather all the information regarding this case,” she said.
Mr Ford also requested Cannon be exempt for appearing in court in the next appearance, which Mrs Viney approved.
Cannon’s matter was adjourned to July 14 and his bail was ruled to continue.
