A mother who allegedly used a garden light to stab a woman’s leg multiple times after stealing her keys, has been refused bail by a south coast court.

Elizabeth Knox’s bid for freedom was quickly refused by Magistrate Michael Love in the Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday, after the court heard the alleged details of the 35-year-old mother’s violent actions.

Documents tendered to the court allege the Moruya woman robbed another woman of a set of keys in the Batemans Bay region on October 30.

The alleged incident saw Knox charged with aggravated robbery, reckless wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Knox is yet to enter pleas.

She appeared in court via video link from Wollongong Police Station holding cells, where she has been since her arrest on November 1, and applied for bail.

Prosecutor Cory Ware told the court Knox allegedly robbed the woman of a set of keys, before stabbing her multiple times in the leg with a garden light.

Mr Ware said the alleged garden light stabbing led to a number of punctures in the woman’s leg which required suturing.

He said the woman also suffered an injury to her eye.

“[Knox has] a record of previous offending and this fresh offending is the kind of incident one should go to jail for,” Mr Ware said.

However, Knox’s lawyer Daniel Turner urged the court to grant bail due to family reasons.

Mr Turner said his client was an employed traffic control worker and, if granted bail, would move out of the Batemans Bay region.

However, Mr Love said the allegations were too serious.

“She stabbed the victim a number of times in the leg when the victim was trying to get into their car,” he told the court.

“In my view, this is a very strong prosecution case.”

Mr Love denied bail due to the high risk of Knox reoffending and failing to appear in court.

Knox will return to the same court on January 13.
