A young mum screamed “come outside you dog” outside her ex-boyfriend’s house before storming inside and striking him with a plate, a court has heard.
Chelsie April Harding, 20, was sentenced in Wollongong Local Court on Thursday after previously pleading guilty to reckless wounding and intimidation.
Documents tendered in court state the Nowra woman, who was living in Cartwright at the time, and Kaidyn Ingrey had been in a long-term relationship, but had split about six months prior to the incident on September 28, 2023.
Harding rocked up at Mr Ingrey’s house in Nowra despite there being an apprehended domestic violence order where the offender was the person in need of protection.
The documents state Harding yelled out for Mr Ingrey to come outside before he went to the door and asked: “Why did you bring that motherf--ker here for?”
Mr Ingrey was referring to Harding’s new partner Jason Barnes who replied: “Let’s sort this out jail style.”
The documents state the victim closed the door before Harding started yelling “come outside you dog” and “f--k c--t this gronk” while hitting the window near the front door.
Harding, with the help of Barnes, was able to open the door before rushing inside armed with a small plate which she hit Mr Ingrey with twice in the face, causing a gash above his lip.
Mr Ingrey pushed Harding and removed her from the house before Barnes grabbed a shovel and ran at the door with it.
However, the two offenders fled the scene after Mr Ingrey yelled: “I’m calling the cops.”
Police arrested Harding and Barnes on Old Southern Rd, South Nowra, about 2km from where the incident took place.
Harding was granted bail, but had it revoked in August when she was caught in the passenger seat of a stolen Jaguar XJ in Arncliffe. She has since pleaded guilty to being carried in a stolen car in an unrelated matter.
In court Harding’s barrister Robert Steward submitted his client’s reckless wounding charge was “not at the extreme end” of the offence, describing the plate as a “makeshift weapon”.
Mr Steward said Mr Ingrey’s wound looked “grizzly”, but noted there was no “permanent disfigurement” as a result.
The barrister noted a sentencing assessment report categorised Harding as having a “medium risk” of reoffending, though he highlighted the offender’s background of disadvantage where she had also been a victim of domestic violence.
Magistrate Mark Douglass opted against full-time custody, instead sentencing Harding to a 20-month intensive correction order.
The magistrate order she participate in any mental health Assessment or treatment as directed by Community Corrections as well as not use any illicit drugs.
Meanwhile, Barnes will be sentenced in Campbelltown District Court in December for his role in this incident as well with the offender to be sentenced for seven charges including breaking and entering, assaulting police and escaping police custody.
