A south coast man who allegedly swerved through cars on a highway at 199km/h in a bid to outrun police, has handed himself in just days after escaping in the “dangerous” high speed chase, a court has heard.

The alleged police chase saw Daniel Harvey, 50, face Nowra Local Court on Tuesday, charged with exceed speed greater than 45km/h, police pursuit not stop and drive recklessly/furiously at speed.

The Culburra Beach man is yet to enter pleas.

Police allege Harvey was travelling along the Hume Hwy, outside Goulburn, in a Holden Commodore on the morning of June 24 this year.

Speed radars allegedly detected Harvey at 11am travelling at 199km/h – 89km/h above the signposted speed limit.

David Harvey will return to Nowra Local Court on August 13.

Documents tendered to the court state the alleged chase lasted half an hour, before the officers lost sight of Harvey.

Police allege that Harvey presented himself to Nowra police station eight days later.

The Culburra Beach man’s licence was suspended and he was charged before being granted bail later that day in the Nowra Local Court.

Bail papers state the decision was made due to Harvey’s limited record and the fact he handed himself in.

Harvey’s bail conditions state he must report to the Nowra police station three times a week, be on good behaviour, reside in Culburra Beach and not drive a car.

In Nowra Local Court on Tuesday, Harvey’s lawyer Brett Ford asked for an adjournment for further discussions before pleas were entered.

The request was not opposed by magistrate Clare Farnan, who adjourned the matter by three weeks.

Harvey will return to the Nowra Local Court on August 13, where he is expected to enter pleas.
