Nathan Laidlaw: Sanctuary Point man allegedly hit pedestrian Shirley Thompson

A man accused of killing an elderly woman while driving his ute dangerously on the NSW south coast is set to enter pleas more than a year after the incident. Read the latest.

A man who allegedly killed an elderly woman in a NSW south coast CBD after driving negligently and dangerously, is set to enter pleas more than a year after the incident.

Nathan Jay Laidlaw, 24, was arrested and charged on June 15 last year, after allegedly colliding with 88-year-old Shirley Thompson with a vehicle in the Nowra CBD.

The incident saw the Sanctuary Point man charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.

Laidlaw is still yet to enter pleas more than a year on.

The 24-year-old was excused from Nowra Local Court on Friday when his matters were mentioned, with police previously alleging Laidlaw was driving a Holden Commodore dangerously along Nowra Ln and Worrigee St, Nowra on the afternoon of June 14, before hitting Ms Thompson.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, before taking Ms Thompson to the Shoalhaven District Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries and died the following day.

Laidlaw was arrested and charged the next day.

He was later granted bail in the Nowra Local Court.

The matter was mentioned in the Nowra Local Court on Friday, where it was suggested pleas would be incoming on the next appearance.

Laidlaw’s lawyer, Emma Harrison, asked the court for a further adjournment where pleas are expected to be entered.

Magistrate Lisa Viney did not oppose the request, adjourning Laidlaw’s matter to August 9 at Nowra Local Court.
