A south coast teenager reached speeds of 115km/h during a police pursuit mere hours after her licence was suspended for drink driving on New Year’s Day.
Georgia Rourke, 18, from Bomaderry, pleaded guilty in Nowra Local Court on Tuesday to charges of police pursuit – not stop, drive with low range PCA, drive with middle range PCA and drive motor vehicle while licence suspended.
The court heard in the early hours of New Year's Day, Rourke was driving in the Vincentia area when highway patrol saw her swerving.
After being pulled over by the officers, Rourke blew a .083 blood alcohol reading.
Agreed facts state she was issued an on-the-spot licence suspension and a court attendance notice.
However, Rourke’s escapades did not stop there, as she got back in her car and continued to drive after police had left.
A few hours later at 2.18am, another highway patrol car spotted Rourke’s car on the highway outside Nowra, and, similar to the first time, witnessed her swerving between the lines.
Police attempted to pull her over again, however this time Rourke sped up and began driving away, starting a police pursuit.
Agreed facts read by Magistrate Lisa Viney stated Rourke was fleeing from police on Kinghorne Street Nowra at 115km/h.
“This is a 50 zone,” Magistrate Viney said.
Rourke lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a metal fence before jumping out of the car and fleeing on foot, where she was then arrested.
She was taken to Nowra police station, where she blew another reading of 0.053.
Rourke’s lawyer Stephanie Fowler said while the facts were not great, Rourke was still quite young.
“She admits she made mistakes,” Ms Fowler said.
However, Magistrate Viney said she should not have kept driving.
“You kept driving and then fled police,” she said.
Rourke will return to Nowra Local Court on March 21 for sentencing.
