A Lake Macquarie woman drunk at the wheel, who smashed into a parked ute, had to be stopped by witnesses who removed her keys so she wouldn’t drive away for the second time.

Geraldine Worthington from Wyee was driving along Wyee Rd at Wyee on the afternoon of June 16 when she lost control and collided with a parked ute on the side of the road, which had a passenger inside at the time.

Police facts stated the crash was so bad, it left the utility with considerable damage and the vehicle was unroadworthy.

But instead of stopping, the 64-year-old drove off.

Witnesses who saw the crash followed Ms Worthington, who finally pulled over a short time later.

Police facts detailed how they tried to exchange particulars with her but had no luck due to her level of intoxication.

Again she tried to leave the scene but witnesses removed her keys from the vehicle to ensure she couldn’t make another getaway.

When police arrived she was breath tested and blew a positive reading of 0.153 before being arrested and her license immediately suspended.

Police facts noted at the time, the 64-year-old was swaying, her speech was delayed and her eyes appeared red and watery.

At Toronto Local Court on Tuesday, Ms Worthington appeared unrepresented and pleaded guilty to high range drink driving and not give particulars to other driver.

The court heard it wasn’t her first drink driving offence, which prompted Magistrate Andrew Eckhold to ask: “Do you have an alcohol problem?”

“Yes” she replied.

Her matter was adjourned for sentence in October.
