Shortland: Man accused of threatening another man with a tomahawk following argument

A man who had an argument with another man has allegedly then threatened him with a tomahawk at Shortland on Monday night. He was arrested a short time later.

A man has been accused of threatening another man with a tomahawk in Newcastle on Monday night.

At about 7.40pm, police allege the 39-year-old was involved in a verbal altercation with a man on Sandgate Rd, Shortland.

Police allege he briefly left before returning armed with a tomahawk to confront the other man.

He was arrested by Newcastle Police a short time later and taken to Waratah Police Station.

He was charged with affray and armed with intent to commit indictable offence.

He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident. They’re urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Waratah Police or to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
