The man charged with allegedly stabbing two police officers in a frenzied attack in Toronto had his first mention in court today.

Oliver Scales-Copeland, who was charged with two counts of wounding with intent to resist arrest, destroying property and breaching bail for previous drug-related offences, was not required to appear via AVL at Toronto Local Court on Tuesday.

The prosecution told the court the matter needed to go to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and required an eight week adjournment to review a large quantity of CCTV vision.

It came after he was placed under a dramatic citizens’ arrest following a terrifying rampage which began shortly before 1pm yesterday when Mr Scales-Copeland allegedly got out of a rental car and slashed the tyre of a car stopped at the intersection of The Boulevarde and Carey St.

Two Senior Constables from the Toronto Police Station heard the triple-0 call and ran out to confront him at a nearby service station where police will allege he was armed with two knives.

Dramatic video footage shows Mr Scales-Copeland chase one of the officers around a vehicle as terrified motorists were filling up at the bowsers.

It was revealed on Monday that the 25-year-old’s father is George Copeland, a Greens councillor on Waverley Council in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. He was previously the council’s deputy mayor and works in IT.

Mr Scales-Copeland is also a former musical prodigy, whose musical career hit a high note in 2013 when he appeared on TripleJ’s ‘Unearthed’ with his mother, who is an accomplished violinist.

The police used OC spray and batons to attempt to disarm the man but both were allegedly stabbed in the process — one in the leg up to five times, which nicked his femoral artery and the other in the hand.

Mr Scales-Copeland was eventually overpowered by a number of men who saw the incident unfold from a bus, which was taking them to court-ordered community service.

The two injured officers were taken to John Hunter Hospital where one was later discharged after receiving treatment.

Magistrate Mick Morahan also ordered a psychiatric assessment before adjourning the matter until December 3 at Toronto Local Court.

Bail was formally refused.
