Police have been forced to shoot dead two dogs after they attacked another dog in a neighbouring property at Singleton.
Hunter Valley officers were called to a Singleton Heights home about 3.30pm on Thursday following reports of a dog attack.
They found two American Staffordshire terriers in a neighbouring yard attacking another Staffordshire terrier.
“Police were unable to raise a local dog catcher, and after the situation deteriorated further, an officer discharged the firearm, killing the two dogs,’’police said in a statement.
The owner of the attacked dog took it to a local vet, but it also died.
Police said the matter would be investigated by the local council.
