Salamander Bay: Ron and Robyn Thomson killed in car crash, man charged with manslaughter

A man has been remanded in custody after being charged with the manslaughter of an elderly couple in a horrific daylight crash at Salamander Bay.
Ron Thomson, 80, and his wife Robyn, 77, were killed when their Toyota Aurion was involved in a collision with a Holden Commodore on a Salamander Way roundabout on August 26.
The popular couple had moved to Salamander Bay in 2004 to enjoy their retirement.
The driver of the Commodore, a 44-year-old Tanilba Bay man, suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital.
Following a two-month investigation, Hunter crash investigation unit officers charged the Tanilba Bay man on Thursday.
He was charged with two counts of manslaughter, two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death – drive speed dangerous, negligent driving – occasioning death, drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, negligent driving, not keep left of dividing line and class A motor vehicle exceed speed over 30km/h.
He was refused bail in Raymond Terrace Local Court to reappear on January
18.
