Glendale, Frederick street: Two men charged over alleged sexual assault of 14 and 17-year-old girls

Police allege two teenage girls were walking with two other friends in Glendale on October 2 when they were approached by two unknown men who assaulted and raped them.

Two men will appear at Newcastle Local Court charged with sexual assault on Wednesday.

In a horrifying ordeal, two teenage girls out walking in Lake Macquarie have allegedly been attacked by two men, who approached them before sexually assaulting them.

Police allege James Walters, 24, from Williamtown and Darcy Howison, 19, from Argenton threatened two girls - aged 14 and 17 - and two other friends who were walking along Frederick St, Glendale at around 11.30pm on October 2.

Court documents revealed Walters allegedly assaulted and raped both girls, taking advantage of the youngest girl who was under the influence of alcohol, while Howison allegedly raped and assaulted the younger girl.

Police were told one of the friends went to get help, before the 17-year-old was able to run to a nearby shop and return with staff members who assisted the younger girl.

Both men fled from the scene, as emergency services were called.

Following an investigation by detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad police raided two homes at Argenton and Williamtown early Tuesday morning.

Both Walters and Howison were arrested, while police seized a number of items which may have been relevant to the investigation, as well as cannabis and a cannabis plant, which was located at the Williamtown property.

Walters was charged with sexual intercourse without consent, aggravated sex assault-victim under the age of 16 years, aggravated sexual intercourse child aged 14-16 years, assault child aged 14-16 with intent to commit sexual offence, intentionally sexually touch child aged 10-16, aggravated intentionally do sexual act with child aged 10-16, two counts of incite another to sexually touch them without consent, cultivate prohibited plant and possess prohibited drug.

Howison was charged with aggravated sex assault-victim under the age of 16 years, assault child aged 14-16 with intent to commit sexual offence, and three counts of intentionally sexually touch child aged 10-16.

In Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday neither applied for bail as their matters were adjourned until December.
