They will allege he then broke into the premises while armed with a knife with the intent to assault the woman living there.

Mr Singh was arrested shortly after the alleged incident and granted bail in Parramatta Local Court on Christmas Day.

During Mr Singh’s bail hearing, his lawyer told the court Mr Singh had arrived from India in 2006 and was employed.

The lawyer also questioned the strength of the prosecution case, and noted the “considerable distance” between him and his alleged victim.

Jaspreet Singh will next appear in Katoomba Local Court on March 15.

Mr Singh was granted bail under conditions he report to police two times a week and that he not go within two kilometres of Leura unless attending court.

In Katoomba Local Court on Monday, Mr Singh’s lawyer told Magistrate Leanne Robinson his client was in “long-term” hospital care, and requested an eight-week adjournment.

Magistrate Robinson confirmed she had received a letter from Blacktown Hospital saying Mr Singh was a patient there, and adjourned the matter to March 15.
