Seven Hills: Austin Karas faces larceny charges in court

A teenager allegedly broke into two homes in Sydney’s northwest while their owners were still inside.

A teenager who police allege committed larceny at two houses in Sydney’s west on a May morning will spend at least two more months behind bars.

Austin Karas, 19, of Earlwood, faced Penrith Local Court on Friday charged with aggravated commit a serious indictable offence and break out with people there, aggravated break-and-enter and commit a serious offence with people there, and using an offensive weapon to commit an indictable offence.

Police will allege in court Mr Karas was at the home of Rebecca Bates on Bulah Way, Seven Hills, when he stole items from the home and broke out while knowing Ms Bates was in the premises just after 5am on May 7 last year.

Police will also allege Mr Karas was armed with a weapon while in the home of Ms Bates, but have not released what type of weapon was allegedly involved.

Mr Karas then allegedly broke into the house of Yusuf Erdogdu on Harwood St, Seven Hills, just after 6.30am and stole items from the premises while Mr Erdogdu was home.

Austin Karas did not apply for bail and will next appear in Penrith Local Court on March 12.

In court, a DPP prosecutor filed a charge certificate with Magistrate Geoff Hiattand requested an adjournment for a case conference.

Magistrate Hiatt adjourned the matter to March 12 for a case conference mention at Penrith Local Court.

Mr Karas’s lawyer did not apply for bail.
