A former high-ranking member of the Nomads has been told “it’s disgusting” the things he has done in the past, having spent more than 15 years of his adult life behind bars.

A court has heard Jason Wayne Bailey - former sergeant-at-arms of the Sydney chapter - was now no longer affiliated with the bikie gang, described as a “cult-like environment”, and had instead turned to his family as a support network.

He fronted Newcastle District Court on Friday to learn his fate over two violent home invasions and the “kneecapping” of a gang nominee as a form of discipline when the wannabe bikie broke club rules by using ‘ice’.

The court heard the 49-year-old grandfather organised a meeting with other Nomad members and brought the nominee to an isolated forest location at Freemans Waterhole on April 8, 2022.

It’s then he stood in-front of him and said “you know you f**ked up” and shot him in the right leg before he was dragged him 10 metres, driven to a roadside in Edgeworth and dumped.

Before the shooting Bailey was also involved in an unrelated home invasion at Edgeworth a month prior.

Armed with a Luger pistol and together with a club nominee who was armed with a machete, he stormed the Laurel St home over a drug dispute and money owed.

But instead the girlfriend of the man they were looking for was inside, and when the court heard she tried to take a swing at the nominee, he punched her to the face and kicked her on the ground, before she was attacked with the machete.

Despite raiding the home for money, the pair fled emptyhanded..

Bailey was also involved when a group stormed the West Wallsend home of former Rebel bikie Jake Allen on a night in September 2021 in retribution for “talking shit” about the club and an ex-girlfriend.

The court also heard around the time of Bailey’s arrest a self-storage shed in Cardiff was raided by police which located the same Luger pistol used by the 49-year-old, two batons and parts to a shotgun and rifle.

In relation to all three separate incidents, Bailey pleaded guilty to aggravated break and enter with intent to rob, aggravated break and enter assault occasioning actual bodily harm, discharge a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, knowingly direct activities of a criminal group and two firearm possession charges.

Bailey’s defence barrister confirmed he was no longer a member of the Nomads bikie gang and told the court his client was someone who perhaps was less likely to be capable of exacting violence given he was almost 50.

Judge Roy Ellis sentenced Bailey to 13 years and six months jail with a non-parole period of eight years and six months.

With time already served, he will be eligible for release in 2030.
